Question 1

Who is responsible for a lost item — the airline or the airport?

Accepted Answer

If you left the item on board, the airline and its lost property office handle the case. If you lost it in the terminal, at a gate, in a shop or in baggage reclaim, the airport is responsible. It is worth reporting in both places, because items are often passed between cabin crew and terminal services.

Question 2

What happens to items left at the security checkpoint?

Accepted Answer

Items left at security screening usually go to airport security first and reach the lost property office only afterwards. This takes anywhere from a few hours to a few days. Include the time and the lane number in your report — that is the fastest way to locate the item.

Question 3

Can I report a lost item without a reference number?

Accepted Answer

Yes. An airport reference number speeds things up but is not required. The date, approximate time, place and a precise description are enough: category, colour, brand and one distinguishing feature. Refindi handles your case even if you have no confirmation from the airport.

Question 4

How long do Polish airports keep found items?

Accepted Answer

Typical storage at Polish airports runs from 30 days to 3 months, depending on the item and the airport's rules. Perishables are disposed of immediately, while valuables and documents are handed to the relevant authorities. Report as early as you can — after the deadline the item may no longer be available.

Question 5

Will I pay customs duty on an international shipment?

Accepted Answer

Shipments within the European Union are not subject to customs duty. Outside the EU the carrier may charge duty and tax under the destination country's rules, payable on delivery. Personal belongings returned to their owner often qualify for relief, but the destination customs office always makes the final call.

Question 6

How much does it cost to recover a lost item?

Accepted Answer

Reporting is free — you only pay for shipping if you choose courier or parcel locker delivery. You see the cost before paying and can opt out if you prefer to collect the item in person.

Question 7

Do I need an account to report a lost item?

Accepted Answer

No. The Refindi form works without logging in and without creating an account. You receive case updates by email and can save the link to come back to your report later.

Question 8

What language does Refindi use to contact the airport?

Accepted Answer

We contact Polish airports and lost property offices in Polish, while corresponding with you in your own language. You never have to call or write in Polish to get the case moving.

Question 9

Can the item be shipped abroad?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We arrange courier shipping to addresses in Poland and abroad, with tracking included. You provide the address in the form and we calculate the delivery cost before payment.

Question 10

What happens to identity documents found at an airport?

Accepted Answer

We do not ship ID cards, passports or other identity documents. Under the Polish Found Property Act such documents are handed to the relevant authorities — the police or the issuing office — and must be collected there.
